STEWART, Lazarus, a Representative from Allegheny and Butler Counties; born, 1777 in Mifflin Junction, Allegheny County, Pa.; clerk of elections, Allegheny County (1805); elected, auditor, Allegheny County (1813-1815); town clerk, Pittsburgh (1814); elected, sheriff, Allegheny County (1817-1819, 1823-1825); elected as a Federalist to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1819-1820 and as a Democrat to the 1820-1821 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1821); elected, commissioner, Allegheny County (1829-1830); died, 1845 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
