HILL, Rees, a Representative from Greene County; born, April 15, 1776 in Virginia; colonel, 147th Regiment, Pennsylvania Militia (1813, War of 1812); aide-de-camp, Governor William Findlay (1818); merchant; unsuccessful campaign, sheriff, Greene County (1805, 1808); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1810-1811 and 1811-1812 terms; reelected to the House as a Democratic-Republican for the 1812-1813, 1814-1815, 1815-1816 and 1816-1817 terms; reelected to the House as a Democrat for the 1817-1818, 1818-1819 and 1819-1820 terms; elected, Speaker of the House (1815-1817, 1818-1819); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1820-1824); unsuccessful campaign, Governor of Pennsylvania (1823); unsuccessful campaign, United States Senate (1824); died, November 24, 1852 in Frederick County, Virginia; interred, Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Winchester City, Virginia.
