DORRANCE, Benjamin, a Representative from Luzerne and Susquehanna Counties; born, 1767 in Plainfield, Windham County, Ct.; lieutenant colonel, 55th Regiment, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania Militia (1805-1814, War of 1812); elected, commissioner, Luzerne County (1805); elected, sheriff, Luzerne County (1801-1804); elected, commissioner, Luzerne County (1805-1807); elected as a Federalist to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1808-1809, 1809-1810, 1810-1811, 1812-1813, 1814-1815, 1819-1820 and 1820-1821 terms; president, Wyoming National Bank (1829-1830, 1831-1832); reelected to the House as a Democrat to the 1830-1831 term; died, August 24, 1837 in Kingston, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania; interred, Hollenback Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
