SHELHAMER, Kent Dale, a Representative from Columbia and Montour Counties; born in Orangeville, Columbia County, Pa., November 30, 1924; graduated, Orangeville High School; attended, the Pennsylvania State University; sergeant, Company C, 1st Engineer Combat Battalion, United States Army (1945-1946, World War II: World War II Victory medal, Army of Occupation medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal recipient); owner, Shelhamer Farms; auditor; school director; elected, commissioner, Columbia County (2 terms); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1965 term and served 5 more consecutive terms; appointed, Select Committee to Investigate the State Water Plan (1974); appointed, Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (1975-1976); not a candidate for reelection to the House (1976); appointed, Deputy Secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (1976); appointed, Secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (1977-1978); board member, Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (2003); died, May 31, 2024 in Danville, Columbia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Ebenezer Cemetery, North Centre Township, Columbia County, Pennsylvania.
