MAHER, John A., III, a Representative from Allegheny and Washington Counties; born in New York City, New York County, NY, November 4, 1958; graduated, Carlisle High School; A.B., management science and accounting, Duke University; scholarship studies, Oxford University; fellowship studies, Australian Graduate School of Management; served, United States Navy; Certified Public Accountant (1983-present); founder, Maher Duessel; certified government financial manager; lecturer, International Symposium of Economic Crime, Cambridge University; guest instructor, Carnegie Mellon University, Heinz School; adjunct faculty member, Community College of Allegheny County; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in a Special Election on September 9, 1997 and Sworn-In, September 22, 1997; reelected to the House to serve 10 more consecutive terms; appointed, Select Committee on Alternatives for the Operation of the Philadelphia International Airport (2000); appointed, Select Committee on Toll Roads (2004-2005); appointed, Legislative Audit Advisory Commission (2005-2008; chair, 2007-2008); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania Auditor General (2012); Commonwealth trustee, University of Pittsburgh (2014-2018); not a candidate for reelection to the House (2018).
