KOWALYSHYN, Russell, a Representative from Monroe and Northampton Counties; born in Northampton, Northampton County, Pa., September 16, 1918; graduated, Northampton High School; B.A., Lehigh University; M.A., Columbia University; LL.B., Dickinson School of Law (now Penn State Dickinson Law); captain, Military Government, United States Army (1943-1946), (1942-1946, World War II); attorney; Assistant District Attorney, Northampton County (1956-1963); director, Northampton Area school board (1960-1965); solicitor, Moore Township and Northampton; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1965 term; reelected to serve 9 consecutive terms thereafter; appointed, chair, Select Committee on Safe Drinking Water (1984); not a candidate for reelection to the House (1984); died, April 17, 1988 in Fountain Hill, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania; interred, Assumption of Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Northampton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
