SMITH, L. Eugene “Snuffy,” a Representative from Clearfield, Indiana and Jefferson Counties; born in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, Pa., September 3, 1921; attended, Army Air Force Pilot Training School; served, United States Army Air Force; owner, tire business; farmer; elected, mayor, Punxsutawney; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in a Special Election on February 19, 1963; Sworn-In on March 11, 1963 to serve the remaining 1963 term; reelected to 11 consecutive terms thereafter; appointed, Special Committee to Investigate the Energy Crisis (1973); appointed, Pennsylvania Commission on Interstate Cooperation (1979-1980); appointed, Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee (1981-1986); appointed, Special Bipartisan Committee to Study the Impact on Pennsylvania Consumers of the Divestiture of AT&T (1984); not a candidate for reelection to the House (1986); died, April 7, 2019 in DeLancey, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania; interred, Mt. Zion Cemetery, Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.
