Pleasant, Westmoreland County, Pa., September 22, 1934; graduated, Ramsay High School, 1953; graduated, Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, 1955; A.A., Elon College, 1958; served, United States Army (1958-1960); funeral director, owner and operator, Saloom Funeral Services (1960-2004); chair, East Huntingdon Township Republican Committee (1964-1965); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives’ 59th District as a Republican in 1966; served 4 more consecutive terms; unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the 59th District (1976); elected, Mt. Pleasant School Board (1980-1983); reelected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives’ 26th District as a Democrat in 1982; served 4 more consecutive terms; appointed, Select Committee to Investigate the Bidding Requirements for Certain PennDOT Contracts (1985); not a candidate for reelection to the House (1992); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1992); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1996); owner and operator, Saloom Farms; died, May 15, 2022 in Somerset, Somerset County, Pennsylvania; interred, Mt.
