SMYTH, William, a Representative from Centre and Clearfield Counties; born, circa 1771 in Ireland; tavern owner; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1818); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1819-1820, 1820-1821, 1821-1822 and 1824-1825 terms; elected, president, State Democratic Convention (1829); merchant; farmer; elected, commissioner, Centre County (1833); elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention (1837-1838); elected, justice of the peace (1840-1842); appointed, associate judge, Centre County Court of Common Pleas (1841-1846); died, January 23, 1863 in Jacksonville, Centre County, Pennsylvania; interred, Lick Run Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Jacksonville, Centre County, Pennsylvania.
