MENGEL, Abraham, a Representative from Berks and Schuylkill Counties; born, February 18, 1781 in Heidelberg Township, Berks County, Pa.; laborer; elected, auditor, Berks County (1814); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1815, 1816, 1818); elected as Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1819-1820 term; unsuccessful campaign, sheriff, Berks County (1820); elected, delegate, State Democratic Convention (1839); died, August 19, 1849 in Berks County, Pennsylvania; interred, Saint John’s Reformed Old Churchyard, Sinking Spring, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
