HOLMES, John, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, November 12, 1786 in Strabane, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1794, 1798, 1816); unsuccessful campaign, auditor, Philadelphia County (1810, 1811); elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1812-1813, 1814-1815 and 1815-1816 terms; reelected to the House as a Republican to the 1813-1814 term; reelected to the House for the 1818-1819 and 1819-1820 terms as a Democrat; died, July 25, 1834 in Londonderry (now Derry), County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
