RUTHERFORD, William, a Representative from Dauphin County; August 4, 1776 in Paxtang, Lancaster County (now, Dauphin County), Pa.; lieutenant, Pennsylvania Militia; farmer; unsuccessful campaign, director of the poor, Dauphin County (1815); elected, director of the poor, Dauphin County (1816-1817); elected as an Old School candidate to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1819-1820 and 1820-1821 terms; reelected to the House as an Anti-Mason for the 1829-1830 and 1830-1831 terms; died, January 17, 1850 in Upper Swatara Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Paxton Presbyterian Churchyard, Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
