RYON, John, a Representative from Bradford and Tioga Counties; born, January 31, 1787 in Lycoming County, Pa.; farmer; unsuccessful campaign, sheriff, Tioga County (1815); justice of the peace (1816); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1819-1820 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1820); elected, commissioner, Tioga County (1821); reelected to the House for the 1822-1823 and 1823-1824 terms; proprietor, dry goods store (1824-1830); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1825-1829); appointed, superintendent, Pennsylvania Canal, west branch division (1829-1831); appointed, associate judge, Tioga County (1833-1842, 1842-1847); chair, Tioga County Democratic Committee (1839-1853); trustee, Lawrenceville Academy (1852-1853); died, July 22, 1859 in Lawrenceville, Tioga County, Pennsylvania; interred, Highland Cemetery, Elkland, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
