LEIPER, George Gray, a Representative from Delaware County; born, February 3, 1786 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; graduated, University of Pennsylvania, 1803; first lieutenant, Delaware County Fencibles, Pennsylvania Militia (1814, War of 1812); lieutenant colonel, Delaware County Fencibles, Pennsylvania Milita (1817-1834); engaged, logging business; operated, bark mill; operated, stone quarry; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1820-1821 term, not a candidate for reelection; elected, United States Congress (1829-1831); appointed, associate judge, Delaware County (1843-1851); died, November 18, 1868 in Ridley Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania; interred, Leiper Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Swarthmore, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
