MATHIOT, Jacob Davies, a Representative from Westmoreland County; born, September 30, 1789 in Ellicott’s Mills (now Ellicott City), Anne Arundel County (now Howard County), Md.; colonel, Fayette & Westmoreland Companies, Pennsylvania Militia (1807-1816: War of 1812); town clerk, Connellsville, Fayette County (1809); engaged, iron industry; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1817, 1821); attended, Democratic State Convention (1829); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1831-1832 and 1833-1834 term; builder, California Furnace; owner, Ross Furnace (1842-1856); owner, Dunbar Furnace (1860s); clerk, United States Treasury Department, Washington, DC (1861-1865); died, December 13, 1865 in Laughlintown, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Old Ligonier Cemetery, Ligonier, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
