CRAWFORD, Thomas Hartley, a Representative from Franklin County; born November 4, 1786 in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pa.; graduated, Princeton College, 1804; attorney (1807-1863); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1823); elected, United States Congress (1829-1833); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1833-1834 term; appointed, commissioner, Committee to Investigate Alleged Frauds in the Sale of the Creek Reservation (1836); Presidential appointee, Commissioner of Indian Affairs, United States Department of the Interior (1838-1845); Presidential appointee, judge, Criminal Court, District of Columbia (1845-1861); died, January 27, 1863 in Washington, District of Columbia; interred, Congressional Cemetery, Washington, District of Columbia.
