DYRE, James, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, August 17, 1777 in Frankford, Philadelphia County, Pa.; colonel, Pennsylvania Militia; tavern keeper; tax collector, Oxford, Philadelphia County (1807); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1817-1818 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1818, 1819): reelected to the House as an Old School candidate for the 1820-1821 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House; elected, delegate, Democratic National Convention (1824); died, May 5, 1836 in Frankford, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
