SMITH, Thomas S., a Representative from Philadelphia City; born, 1798 in Pennsylvania; lawyer; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1831-1832 term; reelected to the House for the 1834-1835 term as a National Republican; reelected to the House for the 1835-1836 and 1838-1839 terms as a Whig; elected, common council, Philadelphia (1839-1842); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1852, 1853); died, October 22, 1873 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Laurel Hill Cemetery East, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
