MATHERS, James, a Representative from Juniata and Mifflin Counties; born, January 21, 1803 in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, Pa.; lawyer (1827-1850); appointed, deputy surveyor general, Mifflin County (1826); engaged, real estate; manger, Mifflin Bridge Company (1828-1834; treasurer, 1834); elected, council, Mifflinburg (1833-1834); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1835-1836 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1836); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1841-1843); engaged, furnace business; died, October 5, 1850 in Peru Mills, Juniata County, Pennsylvania; interred, Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, Juniata County, Pennsylvania.
