CORTRIGHT, Cornelius, a Representative from Luzerne and Susquehanna Counties; born, March 3, 1764 in Lehman Township, Pike County, Pa.; served, 4th Company, 5th Battalion, Northampton County, Pennsylvania Militia (1782-1784, Revolutionary War); justice of the peace (1806-1840); unsuccessful campaign, auditor, Luzerne County (1810); elected, auditor, Luzerne County (1812); elected, commissioner, Luzerne County (1813-1815, 1830-1832); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1816); elected as a Federalist to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1820-1821, 1821-1822 and 1823-1824 terms; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1822, 1824); died, May 25, 1848; interred, Erie Cemetery, Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania.
