CARSON, Thomas Erskine, a Representative from Franklin County; born, August 6, 1791 in Greencastle, Franklin County, Pa.; teacher; engaged, hat manufacturing; merchant; elected, auditor, Franklin County (1824-1827); elected, magistrate, Mercersburg; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1834-1835 and 1835-1836 terms; reelected to the House for the 1843 and 1844 terms; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1845-1847, 1851-1853); elected, Speaker of the Senate (1853); died, April 26, 1857 in Mercersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
