McELWEE, Thomas Baird, a Representative from Bedford County; born, October 31, 1792 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; captain, 12th Division, 1st Brigade, Pennsylvania Militia (1832-1833); lawyer (1822-1843); elected, delegate, Democratic Republican State Convention (1823); elected, chief burgess, Bedford (1833); elected as a National Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1833-1834 term; reelected to the House as a Democrat for the 1834-1835, 1837-1838, 1838-1839 and 1840 terms; expelled from the House, April 7, 1840; died, August 23, 1843 in Napier, Bedford County, Pennsylvania; interred, Old Presbyterian Graveyard, Bedford, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
