PURCELL, John, a Representative from Mifflin County; born, September 1, 1812 in Pennsylvania; merchant; elected, school director, Newton Hamilton (1844); elected, burgess, Newton Hamilton (1849-1851); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1856 and 1857 terms; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1858 term; died, January 17, 1865 in Newton Hamilton, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Newton Hamilton United Methodist Cemetery, Newton Hamilton, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania.
