ORWIG, Samuel H., a Representative from Juniata, Lycoming, Mifflin, Snyder and Union Counties; born in Mifflinburg, Union County, Pa., August 18, 1836; attended, Mifflinburg Academy; LL.B., Yale School of Law, 1857; M.A., University of Lewisburg (now Bucknell University); quartermaster sergeant, Company D, 28th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1863, Civil War); teacher; principal, Hollidaysburg Academy; proofreader; lawyer; partner, Hayes and Orwig (1860-1866); elected as a Union Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1864 term and as a Republican to the 1865 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1866 term; appointed, special auditor, Dauphin County; unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1882); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1884); unsuccessful campaign, judge, Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, Union and Snyder Counties (1900); died, October 9, 1914 in Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania; interred, Mifflinburg Cemetery, Mifflinburg, Union County, Pennsylvania.
