MITCHELL, Dr. George Vance, a Representative from Juniata and Mifflin Counties; born in Oliver Township, Mifflin County, Pa., April 10, 1811; M.D., Jefferson College (now Thomas Jefferson University), 1834; surgeon, 177th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1863, Civil War); physician; elected, delegate, Democratic State Convention (1849); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1872 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1873 term; died, July 20, 1876 in Brown Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania.
