BARBER, James D., a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, August 16, 1921 in Columbia, Richland County, SC; graduated, Overbrook High School; attended, Allen University; barber; engaged in real estate; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1969 term; reelected to serve for 8 more consecutive terms thereafter; appointed, Special Committee to Investigate Closing of the Blossburg State Hospital (1973); appointed, Select Committee on Three Mile Island (1979); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1987 and 1989 terms; died, December 23, 2001 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
