JOSEPHS, Babette, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, August 4, 1940 in Forest Hills, Queens County, NY; graduated, Forest Hills High School, 1958; B.A., English, Queens College, 1962; J.D., Rutgers - Camden School of Law, 1976; English teacher, Philadelphia (1963-1964); attorney, Cohen Volkert & Josephs (1977-1979); co-founder and executive director, National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (now Pro-Choice America) and the Clara Bell Duvall Education Fund (1978-1980); executive director, Citizens Coalition for Energy Efficiency (1980-1981); co-chair, 8th Ward Democratic Executive Committee; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1985 term; reelected to the House for 13 more consecutive terms; appointed, House Select Committee on Long Term Care (1987-1988); appointed, Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (1993-1994); appointed, Select Committee on Minority, Women, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Inclusion (2009); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (2012, 2014); Super Delegate, Democratic National Convention (1992); board member, American Civil Liberties Union, Philadelphia; died, August 27, 2021 in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon.
