BUCHANAN, William G., a Representative from Indiana County; born in Rayne Township, Indiana County, Pa., January 27, 1921; graduated, Marion Center High School; B.S., Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana University of Pennsylvania), 1942; M.Litt., University of Pittsburgh; served, United States Army Air Force (1943-1946, World War II); teacher, American history, Purchase Line High School; cooperating supervising teacher and coordinator, Indiana State College; member, Young Republican Club of Indiana County; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1952; reelected in 1956, 1958, 1960, 1962, 1964, and 1966; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1954, 1968); member, board of directors, Indiana School District (20 years); appointed, chair, State Board of Private Academic Schools (1972-1989); instructor, political science, The Pennsylvania State University; regional director, Region II, Pennsylvania School Board Association (1993-1999); died, December 13, 1999 in Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania; interred, Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.
