CLARKE, John, a Representative from Beaver County; born, July 29, 1775 in Lewisburg, Union County, Pa.; farmer; elected, auditor, Beaver County (1810-1811); appointed, judge, district 4, Beaver County (1810-1812); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1811, 1818, 1819); elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1815-1816 and 1816-1817 terms; reelected to the House as a Democrat to the 1817-1818 term; elected, prothonotary, Beaver County (1824-1830); reelected to the House as a National Republican for the 1833-1834 term; reelected to the House as a Whig for the 1835-1836 term; elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention (1837-1838); died, August 30, 1853 in New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania; interred, Westfield Presbyterian Cemetery, Mount Jackson, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.
