PAYNTER, Lemuel, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, 1788 in Lewes, Sussex County, De.; lieutenant colonel, 93rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Militia (War of 1812); carpenter and contractor; unsuccessful campaign, election Inspector, Southwark (now Philadelphia) (1823, 1824); elected, commissioner, Southwark; elected, school director, Southwark; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1833-1834 and 1834-1835 terms; elected, United States Congress (1837-1841); died, August 1, 1863 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Union Sixth Street Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; removed to Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
