McCLELLAND, James Alexander, a Representative from Fayette County; born, circa 1790 in Fayette County, Pa.; captain, light dragoon company, Pennsylvania Militia (1812-1813, War of 1812); commanded, 13th Division, Second Brigade, Pennsylvania Militia (1815-1816); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1833-1834, 1835-1836, 1836-1837 and 1837-1838 terms; grocer and liquor merchant, Clayton County, Ia. (1839); postmaster, Prairie La Porte, Ia. (1839-1841); appointed, justice of the peace, Clayton County (1841); clerk of courts, Clayton County, Ia. (1847-1848); farmer; died, April 20, 1851 in Garnavillo, Clayton County, Iowa; interred, McCleland Cemetery, Garnavillo, Clayton County, Iowa.
