LACOCK, Abner, a Representative from Allegheny, Beaver and Butler Counties; born, July 9, 1770 in Alexandria, Alexandria City, Va.; brigadier general, Pennsylvania Militia (1807); appointed, justice of the peace, Pitt Township, Allegheny County (now Beaver County) (1796-1801); general laborer (1796-1798); storekeeper 1798-1800); tavern and innkeeper, Beaver, Pa.; elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1801-1802 and 1802-1803 term; appointed, associate judge, Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, Beaver County (1803-1804); reelected to the House for the 1804-1805, 1805-1806, 1806-1807 and 1807-1808 terms; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1808-1810); elected, United States Congress (1811-1813), elected, United States Senate (1813-1819); appointed, Committee to Investigate General Jackson’s Conduct in the Seminole War (1819); appointed, Commission to Survey Navigable Routes for Commerce in Pennsylvania (1825); supervisor, construction of the Pennsylvania Canal, western region (1826-1830); reelected as a National Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1832-1833, 1833-1834 and 1834-1835 terms; appointed, Commission to Survey the Pennsylvania and Ohio Canal (1836-1837); died, April 12, 1837 in Freedom, Beaver County, Pennsylvania; interred, Lacock Cemetery, East Rochester, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.
