CLARKE, James, a Representative from Huntingdon County; born, September of 1800 in Northumberland (now Union) County, Pa.; merchant (1831-1860); saddler; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Birmingham, Huntingdon County (1832); elected as an Anti-Mason to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1832-1833, 1833-1834 and 1834-1835 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1835-1836 term; director of the poor, Huntingdon County (1851); deputy collector, United States Internal Revenue Department (1863-1864); died, October 22, 1864 in Lewisburg, Union County, Pennsylvania; interred, Birmingham Cemetery, Birmingham, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
