BLACK, Henry, a Representative from Cambria and Somerset Counties; born, February 25, 1783 in Stonycreek, Bedford County (now Somerset County), Pa.; tavern owner; farmer; elected, commissioner, Somerset County (1813); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1815-1816, 1816-1817 and 1817-1818 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1818-1819 term; elected, delegate, National Democratic Convention (1828); appointed, associate judge, Somerset County (1820-1840); elected, United States Congress (1841); died while in office of the Congress, November 28, 1841 in Somerset, Somerset County, Pennsylvania; interred, Black Family Cemetery, Somerset, Somerset County, Pennsylvania; cenotaph, Congressional Cemetery, Washington, District of Columbia.
