MARTIN, William, a Representative from Delaware County; born, September 17, 1797 in Chester, Delaware County, Pa.; lawyer (1821); cotton manufacturer; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1826); elected as a Federalist in a Special Election, December 26, 1826; Sworn-In January 6, 1827 to serve the remaining 1826-1827 term; reelected to the House for the 1827-1828 term; justice of the peace, Lower Chichester Township (1836-1838); clerk to the commissioners, Delaware County; secretary, president, Delaware County Insurance Company (1844-1862); director, Pennsylvania Railroad Company; director, West Philadelphia Railroad Company; director, Steam Tug Company; director, Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company; died, October 16, 1862 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Woodlands Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
