STEVENSON, James S., a Representative from Allegheny and Butler Counties; born, 1780 in York County, Pa.; lawyer; engaged, Pittsburgh White Lead Factory; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat for the 1821-1822, 1822-1823 and 1823-1824 term; elected, United States Congress (1825-1829); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to Congress (1829); president, Pennsylvania Canal Commission (1830-1831); died, October 16, 1831 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, First Presbyterian Churchyard, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
