HOPKINS, Uzal, a Representative from Columbia County; born, September 22, 1781 Northumberland County (now Columbia County), Pa.; engaged, lumber business; contractor, Lehigh Canal construction; unsuccessful campaign, Sheriff, Columbia County (1822); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1830-1831 and 1831-1832 term; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1832-1836); clergyman; engaged, railroad-canal construction; died, September 18, 1837 in Bayou Sara, West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana.
