SHERIFF, John, a Representative from Allegheny County; born, September 15, 1790 in Pennsylvania; served, Pennsylvania Militia (War of 1812); brass founder and coppersmith; proprietor, Sheriff & Tate, leaden pipe manufacturers (1827-1840); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1838-1839 term; elected, select council, Pittsburgh (1840); proprietor, Sheriff & Gallagher, bell and brass foundry and gas fitting manufacturers (1846-1850); farmer; died, November 12, 1863 in New Brighton, Mercer County, Pennsylvania; interred, Mercer Citizens Cemetery, Mercer, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.
