HAYS, William, a Representative from Allegheny County; born, June 27, 1774 in Northampton County, Pa.; proprietor, William Hays & Son, tanning business; elected, assistant burgess, Pittsburgh (1803); elected, coroner, Allegheny County (1812); appointed, commissioner, Allegheny Bridge (1816); elected, select council, Pittsburgh (1817); unsuccessful campaign, coroner, Allegheny County (1821); elected as an Anti-Mason to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1830-1831 term; elected, Pennsylvania Senate (1831-1835); commissioner, Coal Hill Turnpike Road Company (1833-1834); chair, Allegheny County Anti-Mason Convention (1837); died, October 14, 1848 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
