SCOTT, John Morin, a Representative from Philadelphia City; born, October 25, 1789 in New York County, New York; graduated, The College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), 1805; first lieutenant, Second Troop, Philadelphia Cavalry, Pennsylvania Militia (1814, War of 1812); lawyer (1811-1858); elected as a Federalist to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1815-1816 and 1816-1817 terms; elected, common council, Philadelphia (1817-1818); elected, select council, Philadelphia (1820-1832, president 1826-1832); trustee, Lafayette College (1826-1847); reelected to the House as a Democrat in a Special Election, February 23, 1836; Sworn-In, February 29, 1836 to serve the remaining 1835-1836 term; elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention (1837-1838); elected, mayor, Philadelphia (1841-1844); died, April 3, 1858 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Laurel Hill Cemetery East, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
