SHORTZ, Abraham, a Representative from Monroe and Northampton Counties; born, September 3, 1793 in Nazareth Township, Northampton County, Pa.; contractor, Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1836-1837 and 1837-1838 terms; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1839-1840); elected, treasurer, Carbon County (1845-1846); engaged, lumber business; elected, commissioner, Carbon County (1850-1859); died, August 6, 1876 in Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe), Carbon County, Pennsylvania; interred, Mauch Chunk Cemetery, Jim Thorpe, Carbon County, Pennsylvania.
