HYDE, Jabez, Jr., a Representative from Luzerne and Susquehanna Counties; born, July 9, 1776 in Norwich, New London County, Ct.; unsuccessful special election campaign, commissioner, Luzerne County (1805); unsuccessful campaign, sheriff, Luzerne County (1807); unsuccessful campaign, auditor, Luzerne County (1809); elected, sheriff, Susquehanna County (1810-1813); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1813-1814 term; gubernatorial appointee, prothonotary, register and recorder and clerk of courts, Susquehanna County (1816-1820); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1821); reelected to the House for the 1822-1823 and 1823-1824 terms; commissioner, Improving the Navigation of the Susquehanna River (1823-1827); elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention (1837-1838); elected, judge, Susquehanna County (1840-1841); died, October 8, 1841 in Rush, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania; interred, Hyde Family Cemetery, Rush, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.
