PURDY, William, a Representative from Bucks County; born, June 4, 1769 in Moreland, Montgomery County, Pa.; served, Pennsylvania Militia (1794, Whisky Rebellion); captain, 48th Regiment, Pennsylvania Militia (1805-1814, War of 1812); farmer; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1815, 1816, 1817); unsuccessful campaign, sheriff, Bucks County (1818); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1821-1822, 1822-1823, 1823-1824 and 1824-1825 terms; gubernatorial appointee, prothonotary, Bucks County (1830-1834); elected, prothonotary, Bucks County (1834); died, May 30, 1834 in Southampton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania; interred, Old School Baptist Meeting House Cemetery, Southampton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
