LEECH, Thomas, a Clerk from Philadelphia County; born, circa 1685 in Cheltenham Township, Philadelphia County (now Montgomery County), Pa.; merchant; merchant ship owner; elected, Chief Clerk, Pennsylvania Colonial Assembly (October 14, 1723-October 14, 1728); appointed, treasurer, Philadelphia County (1727-1762); elected, Pennsylvania Colonial Assembly (1730-1749, 1755-1762); elected, Speaker (1758); superintendent, Pennsylvania Statehouse (1740-1762); trustee, Pennsylvania General Loan Office (1744-1762); trustee, Academy of Philadelphia (1749-1755) and College of Philadelphia (1755-1762) (now University of Pennsylvania); died while in office, March 31, 1762 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Old St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
