MORRIS, John, Jr., a Clerk from Philadelphia County; born, April 15, 1739 in Philadelphia County, Pa.; graduated, The College of Philadelphia (now The University of Pennsylvania), 1759; appointed, quartermaster lieutenant colonel, Pennsylvania Militia (1776, Revolutionary War); appointed, Master of the Rolls, Pennsylvania (1777-1785, Revolutionary War); lawyer; judge, Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, Quarter Sessions of the Peace, and Orphans Court, Philadelphia (1776); secretary, Pennsylvania Provincial Convention (1776); appointed, acting Pennsylvania Attorney General (1777); elected, Chief Clerk, Pennsylvania General Assembly (November 20, 1777-October, 1779); appointed, recorder of deeds, city and county of Philadelphia (1777-1785); died, March 5, 1785 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
