STERETT, Samuel, a Clerk from Philadelphia County; born, 1758 in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pa.; graduated, The College of Philadelphia (now the University of Pennsylvania); captain, Independent Company, Maryland Militia (1814, War of 1812); lawyer; elected, Assistant Chief Clerk, Pennsylvania General Assembly (1779-1780); elected, Chief Clerk, Pennsylvania General Assembly (November 3, 1780-November 20, 1781, resigned); private secretary to the President of the Congress of the Confederation (1781-1784); elected, Maryland Senate (1789-1790); elected, United States Congress (1791-1793); member, Baltimore Committee of Safety (1812); died, July 12, 1833 in Baltimore, Maryland; interred, Westminster Burial Ground, Baltimore, Maryland.
