BAYNTON, Peter, a Clerk from Philadelphia County; born, August 21, 1754 in Philadelphia County, Pa.; served, Philadelphia Company, Pennsylvania Militia (1780-1799); appointed, adjutant general, Pennsylvania Militia (1799-1800); lawyer; merchant; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Philadelphia (November, 1776-September, 1777; July 1778-April, 1782); appointed, manager, Pennsylvania Lottery (1787); city commissioner of bankruptcy, Philadelphia (1790); elected, Chief Clerk, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (December 31, 1791-January 11, 1797); appointed, Pennsylvania State Treasurer (1797-1798); elected, Pennsylvania State Treasurer (1800-1801); died, October 8, 1821 in Germantown (now Philadelphia), Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
