SHURLOCK, Dr. William Charles, a Clerk from Beaver County; born, January 6, 1835 in Enon Valley, Lawrence County, Pa.; attended, Darlington Academy and Beaver Academy; M.D., Jefferson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College), 1858; captain, Company D, “Round Heads,” 100th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861, Civil War); surgeon, 51st Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1864-1865, Civil War); teacher (3 years); physician and surgeon (1858-1892); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives serving Beaver and Washington Counties for the 1870 and 1871 terms; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1872 term; elected, Chief Clerk, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (January 6 1874-January 6, 1875, January 2, 1877-January 4, 1881); treasurer, North Dakota Medical Society (1884); president, North Dakota Medical Society (1891); died, January 17, 1892 in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota; interred, Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota.
