McCALMONT, Samuel Plumer, a Representative from Mercer, Venango and Warren Counties; born, September 12, 1823 in Sugar Creek Township, Venango County, Pa.; attended, Allegheny College; attorney (1847-1904); partner, Allison & McCalmont (1854-1857); elected as a Democrat American to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1855 term; reelected to the House as a Republican for the 1856 and 1857 terms; partner, McCalmont & Osborne (1864-1894); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1882); owner, coal mine; director, First National Bank; director, Franklin Gas Company; director, the Allegheny Bridge Co.; director, Franklin Electric Co; owner and editor, The Independent Press (1876-1878); owner, The Relief Oil Works (1878); died, July 13, 1904 in Franklin, Venango County, Pennsylvania; interred, Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, Venango County, Pennsylvania.
