CLAPP, Rev. Ralph, a Representative from Mercer, Venango and Warren Counties; born, May 1, 1801 in Middlefield, Hampshire County, Ma.; attended, Collegiate Institution of Amherst, 1822; graduated, Auburn Theological Seminary, 1827; proprietor, sawmill (1840); Methodist preacher; Ironmaster, The President Ironworks; postmaster, United States Postal Service, President Township, Pa. (1852-1855, 1855-1865); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1855 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1856 term; died, August 11, 1865 in President Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania; interred, Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
